Look in the Mirror

Wow. It’s about to get real deep today…..

We are so harsh to each other and to ourselves, especially when it comes to our own body. I don’t like to admit it because I am scared of rejection and that people will see me differently, but I have always struggled with the way that I look. For some reason, it seems that we see ourselves differently than how other people see us. When I look in the mirror, I see all the scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, and imperfections.

Comparison is another thing that will tear you down mentally. See we were never meant to be compared to one another. In Jeremiah 1:4-5 it talks about how God formed us stating, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Wow just let that sink in, that God created YOU himself with intention and with no mistakes. Isaiah 64: 8 says, “You are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.” God uniquely made you and he formed you and again made no mistakes. God did not make us to look like each other and it breaks his heart when we compare ourselves. This verse reminds me of the song called “Canvas And Clay” by Patt Barrett.

His lyrics states,

“When I doubt it, Lord, remind me

I’m wonderfully made

You’re an artist and a potter

I’m the canvas and the clay”

I recently was listening to someone speak and they were explaining the comparison game. They explained that no matter how much you work out like someone you follow, or if you are very strict with a certain diet as that person, you will NEVER look the exact same as them. That really hit me hard because so often I find myself going on all these diets and workout routines expecting the same results as the person that I’m following. But, in all reality, God made us differently so what works for one person’s body necessarily will not work for your body and THAT IS OKAY. I just wanted to encourage you that I like many other people have scares, fat rolls, and stretch marks. That is normal. Our bodies are only temporary, but it is still so important to take care of your body. We’re all in this together and it takes a long time to love the body that your living in, trust me I’m still working on it. I pray those lyrics above over you tonight that when you doubt your worth, future, life, or even your body you remember that God knows your future and has wonderfully made you.
